Name: |
Atharya Aletha |
Appearance:
The young lamia have a way to shapeshift, meaning she can turn her almost 9 meters [~30ft] long tail into slim human legs, but her reptile attributes will remain, counting her slit pupils, bright lime irises and black eye base colour, the reverse of her hands, her feet, her cheeks, hips and parts of her back are still covered with black soft scales, her pointy ears remain too, aswell as her sharp fangs and long prehensile tongue, lastly her forearms and lower legs keep showing the same lime soft feathers that decorated her snake tail.
Her decorative feathers aren't something you would usually find in lamias, even her mother didn't really understood why she have such peculiarity. Atharya usually wears scarce clothing, shades of purple and black, and a distinctive tribal look when she's out in the jungle or in places where she doesn't need to hide her monstruous nature.
Otherwise when she need to blend into a dangerous place as a human she chose long cloaks and wide hoods, in really dangerous situations she even use bandages to cover her whole body to pose as if she suffered some kind of disease.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Early life
Atharya was born in a small wet and narrow cave, the first face she came to know was her mother's, a grown up scarlet scaled lamia. The little newborn never came to meet her father, possibly cause he wasn't alive anymore, either way the small serpent lived her most early years without knowing the outside of the safe haven that was the nest of her mother. Being somehow pampered, receiving food every day, and the endless attentions of her only parental figure, Atharya learned to imitate her little by little.
Years passed and the small snake lady grew a little bit, she had been receiving lessons about the outside world, mostly about it’s innumerable dangers. Atharya was a smart child and she was already fluent at speech by the time she reached her second birthday, her mother was surprised not just at that but at the first signs of her lime feathered decorations, which were a complete mystery for her. Year after year the young Atharya learned all she could about the outside world not having even seen it yet, and then at her fifth year she was allowed to slither her little body out of the protection of the nest.
The warmth of the bright sun, the wetness of the dense mists, the loud songs of the birds… The ground was muddy, the trees bigger than she imagined, the intense greenery surrounding her and the distant sound of the waterfalls confused her senses that were used to the quiet darkness of the nest. A brand new world opened for the young lamia as she ventured to explore the surroundings of the nest’s entrance always under the strict surveillance of her mother. Atharya learned to stalk preys, to hunt, to climb, to hide, to swim… Those were good times.
When Atharya reached 9 years old she suddenly learned that there were predators way scarier than the ones that usually lurked the jungle, hunters. A group of men caught sight of her, she knew how to hide but she was young and she hadn’t dealt with these kind of hunters till that very moment so in the end she was easily trapped and caged. The young lamia cried and begged but it was pointless, she was brought to a slave auction and sold to a disgusting nobleman.
After years of degradation and abuse the nobleman grew bored of her and sold her to an old wandering mage. It took quite some time for him to make Atharya recover some self-esteem, she turned her assistant and helped him with casual chores while he taught her a bit of magic knowledge from time to time, that man told her long stories and they used to chit chat a lot while traveling. The mage was aiming to reach a certain place before his time ended, he wanted to be buried at that place for some reason that he never told to his assistant.
Regretfully the old man passed away before he could see again the green plains that he kept describing to Atharya every day. Atharya was already 16 years old by that time, and even though she had been told multiple times that her master had short time to live, she never expected it to come so quickly, the young lamia drowned in sorrow as she carefully preserved the corpse till reaching the calm grass fields. She buried the old man there with all of his belongings, some of them were rather expensive or even crazily important as his magic grimoire but she couldn’t bear with the idea of taking advantage of the man that treated her so kindly.
From then on, she started a new life. She found a small cave on the nearby mountains and established there for some years, she developed a way to disguise as a humanoid, it wasn’t perfect but it was something nonetheless. After a couple of years leading a calm life hidden in the forest she found herself wanting to learn more, her curiosity always growing, leading her towards the unknown. The young lamia got ready for a long trip and that way she wandered around the land seeking knowledge and maybe a friend or two if it was possible.
